Standing Your Ground!
When he was in his forties, A.B. Simpson, a Presbyterian minister who later founded the Christian Missionary Alliance, was told that he only had a few months to live. He took a vacation to Old Orchard Beach, Maine, where he could spend some time studying the Word of God on the subject of divine healing, a subject that had gained his interest.
He writes in The Gospel of Healing, "...the summer I speak of I heard a great number of people testify that they had been healed
by simply trusting the Word of Christ, just as they would for their salvation. It drove me to my Bible. I determined that I must settle this matter one way or the other.
"I am so glad that I did not go to man," he continued. "At His feet, alone, with my Bible open, and no one to help or guide me, I became convinced that this was part of Christs glorious gospel for a sinful and suffering world, and the purchase of His blessed cross, for all who would believe and receive His Word."
Simpson solemnly vowed to God that he accepted healing without question; that he took Jesus as his Healer; and that he would preach and minister healing in any way God asked him to. Two days later, Simpson was invited to speak at a service in New Hampshire.
He testified about Jesus and His faithfulness to heal and shared that he had just taken Jesus as his Healer.
The next day he was invited to go mountain climbing. His first reaction was that he couldn't go because of his heart condition. Then he remembered that had declared his healing, so he accepted the invitation. Until this time, he had not felt his healing, he had just declared it. He battled all the way up the mountain. Every time he got his mind off the Scriptures, he felt weakness, pain, and fear. But, as he overcame these feelings, and claimed his healing, the symptoms would leave.
He fought this battle all the way to the top of the mountian -- and walked away victorious!
